What is Tarot Reading?
A tarot deck is divided into the Major Arcana — 22 cards representing life's great themes and lessons — and the Minor Arcana, 56 cards across four suits that describe day-to-day experiences. A reader lays the cards in a pattern called a spread and interprets their meanings in relation to a question.
With practice, reading tarot becomes a blend of learned symbolism and trained intuition.
Major and Minor Arcana
The Major Arcana carries the deepest messages — cards like The Fool, The Tower and The Star mark turning points on life's journey. The Minor Arcana, split into Cups, Pentacles, Swords and Wands, addresses emotions, material matters, thoughts and actions respectively.
Tarot Spreads
Spreads give structure to a reading. A simple three-card spread reveals past, present and future, while the classic Celtic Cross explores a situation in depth. Choosing the right spread is part of the reader's craft.
